Hennops MTB Trail

Most hikers know Hennops Hiking Trail as one of the best set of day trails to be found in Gauteng. The area hosts  a number of lively 4x4 routes as well, and the recently added mountain bike trail is sure to be just as successful.

The Hennop’s Mountain Bike Trail consists of a network of approximately 20 km’s of sweet single- and jeep track on the slopes of the Schurveberg mountain. All routes start – being circular - from the shady Hennop’s picnic area (1km from Hennop’s Hadeda Camp), and soon cross the Hennop’s River by means of a cable cage. The routes vary, and will take you through pristine Highveld grassland interspersed with patches of bushveld.

From the picnic spot you can also access the Krokedilberg hike (11km) or the  Zebra hike (6km).

The MTB route is rated not too technical – still suitable for adventurous riders - but does require some degree of fitness. The total network of routes (20km) covers an ascent of 300m, and en route you may encounter eland, kudu, zebra, blou wildebeest, blesbok, impala, duiker, or even jackal, amongst the wide variety of bird- and other wildlife.

After your ride you can recover in the Hadeda Camp’s swimming pools or over a braai in the picnic area. Showers are available, and from the picnic area you can use the hiking or 4x4 trails on offer. (the Hiking trail traverses an Anglo-Boer veld-hospital, as well as a cave where Pruimpie lived and traces of old settlements that mined the dolomite for lime.)Image

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a bicycle, must be in want of another one.
