Cycle transport Every now and then a really good idea makes it from the drawing board to reality. Everythingbicycling proudly offers our broomwagon.

Our broomwagon can independently rack up to 48 bicycles, and can be used for:

  • long-distance hauling of bicycles,
  • sag vehicle support runs (when coupled with a bus),
  • shuttle services (from finish back to start) (when coupled with a bus).

What we considered in the development of the Broomwagon:

The broomwagon is of rugged construction based upon a two - ton, double - axle chassis with overrun braking system, fully equipped with spare wheels, jack, all the strapping one could need and a removable cycle frame.

BroomwagonWith our broomwagon we have left the bottom half of the trailer ‘open’, to allow other road users an unobstructed view across the bed, keeping them informed of the traffic situation on the other side of the trailer.

Whereas an enclosed truck might keep bicycles dry, our broomwagon is not subject to the same breakdown risk inherent to a truck, as the trailer’s tow horse can be easily replaced without having to reload the cargo. In long distance hauling this is of significant benefit, as the risk of transport delay is minimized, and managed.

In addition, a closed truck-body/trailer just cannot afford the ease of accessibility afforded to individual bicycles as with our broomwagon, which minimizes staff requirement to load, unload and to regulate the return of bicycles.

Once loaded, the bicycle remains tucked and locked in the careful grip of Holdfast™ componentry, and the risk of frame scratching and fork bending (as opposed to when bikes are transported on a bakkie) is also substantially reduced.

The Argus

We specialize in assisting cyclists flying down to the Argus.

Yes, you can pack your bike on the plane (it usually forms part of your hand luggage) but on a typical Argus flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town the airline will be carrying other participating cyclists, and often the carrier simply does not have the capacity to carry the number of bikes required (due to the inherent difficulty in bicycle stowage). In any event, you’ll have to:

  • arrange a bikebox,
  • pay an additional service fee levied on the bikestowage
  • pack the bike,
  • get the box to the airport terminal,
  • get it booked in,
  • collect the bike from airline (airlines do not warrant that your bike will arrive on the same plane as you do)
  • get the bike into a taxi, back to your hotel (with everything else you'll be carrying,
  • painstakingly re-assemble your steed.

and that was just to get the bike there…

We just make it a bit simpler for you.

  • Give us your bike, shoes, helmet & water bottles (when you have some time).
  • Book yourself in with your luggage, relax & enjoy your flight.
  • Collect your bike from the start.
  • Ride, finish & give the bike & apparel to us, and
  • Collect your bike back in Jhb/Pta.

Don’t concern yourself over your bike & stuff - we’ll be doing that!

We understand the value of your ironhorse - its painstaking setup – let us do what we understand, and simply collect your bike.

Industrial strength cable-locking and permanent supervision maintain security throughout on the trip, and your bicycle is safe.

Oh – did we mention:

  • no boxes are required,
  • no handlebars tilted,
  • no brakes to be released,
  • no wheels removed ?

Broomwagon / sag vehicle support and shuttle rides.

Broomwagon support is a vital requirement in respect of the logistical and safety arrangements for any bicycling event. Bicycles break, tubes puncture, tyres blow-out and cyclist’s suffer cramping and dehydration.

We can add value to your event by assisting them to get back to family, friends and a well deserved beer!

Bulk transport

With point-to-point events our trailer runs participants back from the finish to the start, adding value to your event’s logistical requirements.

In addition to the above, the broomwagon creates a buffer at the rear of the event, informing trailing motorist of the event ahead, constituting a vitally important safety effort.

Our broomwagon has run sag support for:

  • the ’06  94.7 Cycle Challenge,
  • the Graham Cooper memorial ride ‘07,
  • the ’07 Pick & Pay Fast One,
  • the '07 94.7 Cycle Challenge,
  • the '07 Great Western Cape Ride,
  • the '08 94.7 Cycle Challenge,
  • the '09 Pick & Pay Fast One,

 with resounding success.

Accordingly, one has to ask yourself:

Can your event afford not to have EB’s Broomwagon run the broomwagon run?

It’s where we can simply add a lot of value to your event!

Our broomwagon is for hire to individuals, clubs, teams and event-organizers. Contact Albert on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  or 082 897 0084 to discuss your requirements!

Bicycling news, sales and more.

My whole day is built around meetings that can be achieved around bike rides. My contract actually offers me a free car from my home to my office and back, but I suppose I am addicted to cycling.
